Given my overwhelming number of specified themes PMed to me (about 2) with the "official choose the theme thread.", I take it we don't want to put a theme on this set, historical or not...
Am I right? If so, how do you think we can possibly narrow down all the potential subject matter, outside of limiting the # of designers, which actually defeats the entire purpose of this?
EDIT: To those it may not seem to clear to, I'm not against having no theme. However, I think it adds more flavor as well as simplifying things.

It's not so much that people don't want themes (the proposal thread seems to say otherwise) but I think the act of coherently proposing a theme is rather daunting (I certainly am not up to it).
Of course, we've seen how easy it is to derail topics, so perhaps there isn't another feasible way...

I'm in favor of having a broad theme, something about as broad as ocean's edge had. I like the "lineage and Legends" idea some people were tossing around.

I'm not asking for a paper on it, just maybe a few lines outlining what you would like to see. The theme suggestions thread didn't very far, we got a few suggestions out of it...
I'll think about this, and then we can decide what to do...

Okay...
Continuing the storylines of the various characters that we've seen in previous releases. It's mostly flavor really, but it'd probably end up reusing a considerable number of named crew. Perhaps several (retrofitted) ships too. How does this fit with supporting old factions? We can weave in story elements of their storylines as well.

I do like the idea of continued storylines...hmm...maybe we get everyone choose what characters they think should have their story expanded. Everyone could choose 1 character for each nation and the highest two from each get done? plus any ships that go with that characters story...like if Davy Jones were to be picked we'd also do a Flying Dutchman since they link...
We should figure something out though...any takers? Maybe we PM them to lord_denton?maybe make a new thread? post them here? I don't know...but we should do something to keep the boards alive until we get more news fom Neca.

like if Davy Jones were to be picked we'd also o a Flying Dutchman since they link... Maybe someone could even dredge up the actual captain of legend with the Flying Dutchman, Captain van der Decken. |

Still open to be PMed ideas. But, is a theme the best way to go through with this project? That is the point of this thread. I don't want any run-off from other threads, I just want to know if people agree or disagree with me.

ok, yes I agree that a theme would be good...not entirely necessary, but its the easiest way to focus a set. So, if we're voting I vote yes on theme.

A weak theme would be good. the disney set is a perfect example of going too far.
