So is the quote used for the theme of Savage Shores, the most recent (official) set made. I think it is appling to the current situation as well.
Should we just skip production and jump to the next step, recruitment? (Even if we can't get this printed (yet?), we must not rush things, and we all want this to be well-thought out)
I'm not making this a poll. I want replies.

I agree, I think that we should go to recruitment but we should still be mindful of not rushing things and of production.
We're not really skipping production, we're just putting it to the side to come back to later once we are done with everything else.

Yeah, I'll agree with Vlad. Production might take a long time to iron out. If we can get a few sets finished while working on that then people won't have to wait when production is secured.

Sometimes I feel like my ideas fall on deaf ears and then out of no where deja vu and a new thread almost posing the same question or statement I had brought up is started.
I will repeat myself yet again and emphasize that we need someone to sift through all the ideas posed so far and start polls to help eliminate some of the clutter with a definitive agenda. If we have votes we will have numbers to work with to base popularity.
After some extensive play-testing Then a call for artists should go out. And to whoever said they didn't like rizs artwork, well get used to it. Fan sets often have some of the worst artwork ever. It would be unfair and unrealistic to expect all the fan-made art to be on par with wiz-kids.

*whaps Omega with terrain ideas thread* Didn't realize we were missing any terrain or lacking it for that matter. I'm kinda thinking the crew, ships, and UT were the focus of a new fan expansion. Maybe one of the "minors" with no day job, kids and a week or two before school can weed through these threads and cut and paste every relevant idea in a new thread. At which point all interested members can then vote on which ones need to be kept around.

In the last thread of this sort I agreed with the notion of putting production on hold. No sense stalling this project (any further) on such a large problem, since we can deal with it at any time.

If we have votes we will have numbers to work with to base popularity. I think that the amount of frustration that we are causing omegatraf is going to make his hair turn grey! I will be the first to apologize for the clutter, and I am going to make a thread with some ideas and people will vote on them. I do agree with you despite the hypocrisy I would cause. Now a question: Should people make their own threads? So I make a thread with my 10 ideas and people vote on those 10 ideas? And then marhawkman makes his own thread with his 10 ideas? Sorry if these are stupid questions but I want to do my best to work with you as you are honestly one of the most knowledgeable people here. Agreed and agreed. The artwork may end up being sub-par but I see it as kind of a labor of love thing. Don't like it? Do it yourself and see how yours turn out. I personally am not going to mind the artwork too much as I care more about playing the game. That's just me though.

I prefer the approach of sorting ideas by type.

Ok it's time I declare my intention(s)... I think I am NOT interested in the core idea(s) you guys are going. Personally I think Pirates, just like Pokemon, Magik etc etc are overbloated already. I understand to some extent your interest to keep Pirates going (whatever that means ) but really why do we need any more expansion set? I am interested in the hobby aspect of the production part, making new models, making new products. And perhaps, just perhaps, there's a (small) business opportunity here. WK is out of the picture and if there's still a meaningful demand I could bring in my financial investment, and hobby and business experience... But you guys are too few in numbers and too poor in the wallet. So yeah go ahead and make free downloads. I would download it and send you many thank you emails, but that's about it. My own true intention is to simplify Pirates to a board game. Only 5-6 ship types (not 1000+ unique ships), a fort type and a sea monster. I'd appreciate varied artworks (skins) and/or new models to improve the looks of the game, but adding new stats, special abilities, crews, terrain types, unique treasures... no thanks.

I would only be too happy if someone else already developed what I had in mind.
I'm aware of that game, but it's extremely unlike it would come close, I assume it's almost compatible with the collectible game.
In a sense I want to play navy fleets and colonization rather than pirates. The diff is a band of pirates has say 1-5 ships, whereas a small fleet is 10 ships, a navy is at least 40 ships. Converted to points, I want to play not 40-, not 100- but 500-point games. Of course to make it manageable the rules have to be simplified dramatically. So no unique ships, i.e. each 5-master is identical (other than name, flag, and skin). Also, remove all crews and unique treasures from the game.
Anyway I am not looking for a debate. Some people play games that has 200-page rules/stats books; some people play games with 2 page rule sets (e.g. chess). I am slightly closer to the later kind than the former.

hmm...you want to play Navy vs. Navy? someone out there made up a set of campaign rules on how to play Pirates very similar to what you're suggesting...our Yahoo group has the rules posted on it...if you'd like to join the group and have a yahoo account you can message me your email address or yahoo name and I should be able to add you to the group...or I could just email you the document if you don't want to join the group...which might be better...
...not entirely as you are suggesting, ship names, crew, unique treasures are still part of it, but not as necessary...the campaign was designed more of a competition...I think you're going more for a simulation...still, you might want to read the rules we have. the rules can always be simplified to not include UTs, crew, equipment...of course that cuts into the amount of strategy there can be, but whatever...
...didn't Wk attempt something like this with HeroClix? That Batman stuff that released near Wk's run there was, I believe, and attempt to simplify...hmm...might want to look into that.

Ok it's time I declare my intention(s)... You are free to do so, as long as you respect others views and lay off the degrading remarks. ...Like that. Eh, what? "Core" ideas? Like what? The only core ideas we have are what any player-made set would have; a basic continuation of the game when suppourt from the game is either lax or simply not there. "Whatever that means"? Are you not aware that Wizkids is dead? What do you suppose it means? Seeing how you are relativley new to the game, you have not gone through these past 10 monthes of no information, besides a few table scraps off Heroclix's plate. It takes things like to that to appreciate things like this. Because the whole fanbase is whaning fast? Because that is the whole liveli-ness of the game that depends on new additions to keep interest (unlike chess, checkers, the other few un-bastardized classics)? Yes, it allures me too. We can't even think about that kind of stuff at the moment, however. Wizkids is just another name for Topps. And Topps still has the traderights dangling under its belt, unless it is already in NECA's hands. You can't make profit with them around, they have the large huge buisness muscle on their side. Since you have buisness experience (or so you claim, anybody can lie on the internet, heh ), perhaps you can explain this quote from the minature trading thread? I've said, time and again, that any cost to the buyer of a produced player made set should only cover the cost that production would cover. Very reasonable, and the best way to get people to buy, and thus increase renew interest in the game. What do find so humurous about this? From this post, and in some other places, you tend to dwell alot at the potential buisness venture. And since you, as you indicate, are better off in the size of your wallet then us, wouldn't it be us, the less fortunate, that should be toying with the idea? 5-6 ship types? Does that mean 5-6 ship keywords (junks, longships, square-riggers) or generic ships? (Not to ignore the rest of your second post, it was mainly design stuff [which I lack experience at]) Well, you have me intruged. And I am somewhat put off by things you seem to suggest (or I think you seem to suggest ). I geuss that is how these things start. (Hope I don't run you off with this post, heh)

Dings remarks kinda make me laugh a little. Hes probably mirrored by whatever company/ developer that would pick up the rights and attempt to make the game their own. This is of course after the new company would claim it to be 100% compatable. I've seen it happen before. Ding may have described the commercial future of the pirates line. So for us that liked the original format we shall continue with our silly ideas *edit* I like Oranges!
