um, should the war of 1812 even be in the poll sinse revolution was actually a mix of the two wars. constitution as an example was one of the 6 frigates made for the war of 1812, so it wasn't around for the revolution
it all depends on what ships there's going to be

Indeed. The USS United States was another example. Speaking of the 6 frigates, why was the USS Constellation not represented? I wish it was, since it has an interesting history, or so I am told.

i guess because they didn't want america to have too many frigates, since Bonhomme Richard was upgraded to a 5 master in the game, so i believe that took the place of Consellation

What about later sets? They added more later, so why didn't they add her? There was plenty of room in later sets (such as ROTF )

i'm assuming because she wasn't as famous as her sister ships, such as the United States, Enterprise, and especially the Constitution

The reason that WK made the US Frigates 5 mast ships is because to be totally honest that's pretty much what 5 mast ships are in this game.
Maybe 4 mast ships are more like frigates, but you know what I mean.
Most of the later 5 mast ships have 1 deck of guns, most of the earlier ones have 2 decks of guns.
Anyway, why not just make the USS Constellation in this set?

I was thinking about that, but I wasn't sure if it was recommended. Also investigating the HMS Swallow, HMS Goliath, El Acorozado, La Magnifique, and Le Dauphin Royale had somewhere from 60-100 cannons printed, and a frigate is defined as having from 28-50 cannons. I don't think they are frigates unless you are talking about the time period, but even by then the ship of the lines were quite sophisticated with 74's and and few 106's are running about.

I made up a sense of scale here: www.miniaturetrading.com/im/forum/viewtopic/t=4643///Brigs are four masters, Frigates are 5. Of course, ships like the OE Deliverance (2 decker) complicate the matter. Vlad, what do you mean by this? A great book on the founding of the US Navy is "Six Frigates". I was reading it, but then I ran out of time (library book). I had just got to the launching of the USS United States and the USS Constitution. I'm afraid I'll have to re-read it.

I honestly have no idea. I suppose you could look at the San Cristobal and compare it to the HMS Titan or El Acorazado.

just look at the HMS Dreadnought, it has, i think, three gun decks. secondly, several frigates were modified to carry more guns, the constitution had 64 or 74, i'm not sure

i believe that those were only the 24-pounders. i think it had several other small guns, then again, i could be wrong

I'd go with Early industrial revolution. just late enough for some technical junk (like Nemo's toys) but early enough a time period that there were still a great many unknowns in the seas.
