So, now that the darker side of production has sunk in, what do we do now? Usually, I have more to say, but the poll says it for itself...

I was thinking design now, and while we're designing to keep trying for styrene. If we've designed a lot and styrene doesn't seem to be working and decide it's time to switch to stickers, so be it.

I like how they are working it for Axis & Allies: War at sea: aaminis.myfastforum.org/forum6.phpThey design cards and people are free to download them, whether they have an actual unit for the card or use something else in its stead. Of course, they can sculpt their minis, whereas we can't.

at least were not trying to resurect that game, imagine having to find someone to sculpt and paint, instead of just styrene

If only it were that easy for pirates. Mass production of miniatures would have been cake. I could even make the stupid heroclix. I could probably cast styrene even. I just can't print and stamp it.

@lord_denton: what i meant was if that game had been shut down, like pirates, we'd be having more trouble
@omegatrf: maybe it would be easy for you but the general population might have some problem sculpting good looking ships

Personally?
Let's just switch to stickers. It stinks, I know. Unfortunately the companies don't take us seriously.
I have tons of extra ships I wouldn't mind using for stickers.
I also like the "design now" option, but we just can't do a "dessert now, dinner later" thing. I'd rather we got the tough stuff out of the way.

Of course, they can sculpt their minis, whereas we can't. I like the notion. I personally think that stickers should only be used for crew, and alternate deckplates could be used for the ships, but I only feel that way since I haven't necessarily got enough duplicates for an entire/half-sized set. Making the end results as easy to use, and as open-source as possible would certainly be preferable, letting people use them in their preferred way and avoiding legal trouble.

As I've said before, alternate deckplates is probably an easy way to get something out there...since there are many people that have most ships (or most of the useful ones)...we could just make some new versions of those ships and put the deckplates out there for now...maybe do some crew in a similar way...
...if there is no way of doing stryne then go with stickers, but make sure they're quality...I've made some cardstock deckplates/crew and they just never seemed to look right...we need good print quality because having the somewhat fuzzy ones I made myself aren't the best.

i agree with admiralb, the best way is to just upgrade current ships deckplates instead of full out stickers on the ships

since this is basically the first attempt anyway, it makes sense it seem like playtesting...maybe if some of them go over well we can think about bigger and better things...I'm just saying that if its not possible to do something better new deckplates for existing ships and new versions of existing crew are probably the best way to go.

i didn't say i was going to quit, it just sounds like the best option we have at the moment (i was going to write that in my last post but i was in a rush) when we have established ourselves then we can get past the upgraded deckplates

Admiralb, are you suggesting that we create new abilities for crew like Blackheart, Hawkins, and then new stats for ships like the Titan, or the Constitution?
Not actually those ships per se, but just refits of stuff like that. I actually like that idea, to be honest. : )
