Ahoy! Yeah...I'm sure many of you have seen my expansions on Wizkids' old boards...so you know I can do some ship stats, some flavor text...plus I can do some history research, but since we have someone here who is a real historian is seems unnecassary...plus I love pmessing with graphics...I entered a few in Wk's own design a ship, but none were chosen and the files were lost when my computer crashed...but they were pretty cool...I had a ship that was ice covered and light blue, a Spanish 3-master with gold plating on the hull and looked eeriely similar to Ventura in RotF...One of my favorites was the dark purple-hulled Cursed 4-master with green mist as sails...it also had some holes in the hull and glowing green eyes looking through the holes...pretty fun.
so...in order: Graphics, abilities, writer, historian, ship design.
I could design ships, but don't have the programs necessary...sadly.

@vlad: I remember one of your sets from Pojo. It was quite good. I'm not doing any choosing of postions till we know we can get this printed (and on what). I don't want to step on any toes or run over any dreams. Thank you, and I totally understand your reasoning. Best not to count one's eggs until they hatch!

I've been told I'm pretty good at writing. If there's any way I can be of service, you know where to find me.

Not sure how much was spent. The cost of all of our time and devotion is never paid. The core fan group of Rage Ccg first got an OK from white wolf to continue making the fan made sets. Theres actually been 6-7 sets done entirely since the game was abandoned by white wolf. There was even one set that was a reprint of original cards that had been deemed illegal in tourney play.
So anyways the most important part is play testing. Broken cards suck. Art is always last. I know a lot of dreamers hate that idea but when we play tested rage cards we used blanks long before there was ever a picture. Play-testing would go through 3-4 phases. We would often start with an excess of cards for the project set as well so some ideas and concepts could be scrapped or shelved entirely with no effect to the total release. With white wolfs permission also came their remaining material never released. Before you start trying to make new ideas the ones that were never produced by the company might be the best place to start when producing the first fan made sets. Every fan made card made for Rage ccg is approved by white wolf for tourney play.
when we have tried and tested all errata etc we would then do a call for art entries and often assign one piece per artist and the quickest got a chance at a second of third within one set.
I'm sure I can elaborate or expand my thoughts in the future. Back to cost. The project lead paid for web-space, and licensed programming out of their own pocket. The sets were produced as a pdf file which users could download and print out however they fancied. (stickers card stock etc) One important thing was the legal release that was also included with each set so people could actually take them someplace and get them printed. Kinkos could turn you down worried about copyrights.

Not sure how much was spent. The cost of all of our time and devotion is never paid. This is how we'll have to do it. Of course, printing cards is one thing. Styrene is quite another... Wow, I'm suprised White Wolf accepted them as much as they did. They could have made a big stink over it. Sounds good. We'll need quite a few playtesters, then. Shouldn't be to hard to do. They let them use martarial?! That is shocking. Especialy in this economy. I don't think that will happen, the only staff member that we have in contact with is Woelf, and RtSS might still be released down the road. I like this idea. But shouldn't the one with the best art get more pieces? Of course, this creates rivalry among artists... I like your style, omegatraf. Well, this forum is completely free. Unless I decide to remove the advertising. *checks piggy bank* And I don't think that'll be happening in the near future. Unless we use stickers, I'm postitive we'll need to have styrene companies make this. The price of the set will cover printing and shipping only; No little fees for the designers. Maybe a little something for the people that have to take it to the post office, though.

Designers/artists should get credit in fine print on appropriate cards and that should be payment enough. Another random thought if we get a dedicated enough crew here with equal responsibilities we could name the generic crew of the new set after the designers! Oh I also wanted to include in my list of talents That I have a fine art degree and a strong opinion!, so I would love to be involved in the art direction when the time comes. I'll playtest as well but when it comes to writing and tuning the errata, well ahem theres some on this board much better suited than me.

@lord denton The reason white wolf was so willing to give us their remaining material had alot to do with what happened to the game when it died. five rings attempted and promised to continue the line but when it appeared finally it was with recycled art and 100% "not" compatable with the original game. When 5rings axed it wizards bought some rights and did nothing but shelf it. White wolf with the sucess of vampire finally wanted Rage back but discovered along the way artwork was owned by wizards and five rings owned certain names etc, etc. White wolf only could get rights for flavor text and a fan made set was really the only way legally to get anything ever going again.......... I shutter a little when I realise this may happen to Pirates before its all over.

I can do abilities, and any kind of writing work, especially proofreading. I've already made my own release ( www.cke1st.com/Games/MyOwnSet.htm ), and I've got no shortage of ideas for new stuff.

well, since i'm an artist and my specialty is ships (finally found a use for that!) i could be an artist, i could also work as a ship designer, since i am also a model maker, a writer (maybe) and then history, but i think we have enough of those

I'm also a writer-editor & graphic designer, with enough Photoshop to be dangerous (but am no artist.)
My background is in journalism, publications, and public relations. I received a few awards in a previous life with newspapers, and I write a mean press release, newsletter, and promotional material. (I would not be the best flavor-text writer on any team, since I don't pay enough attention to flavor in game play & collecting--nor am I as familiar with the flavor of the threads throughout the WK releases as some of the Pirates veterans, but I'm a professional editor and grammar junkie.)
I took early semi-retirement, so I have time on my hands.

I am probably the worst at everything, but I'm decent on history, writing, and trying to justify statistics.

I've actually done some work on a set of my own (just cuz I can). I need more story than anything, but the stats I've come up with for my ships are fair. I can do just the same for this set.

I like coming up with map ideas. I LOOVE coming up with creative ways to annoy people with the map. Hehe... My favorite crew from Pirates of the Carribean? Calypso! Y? 'cause placing whirlpools in your opponent's way is down right evil. and the odds of me running out of places to locate whirlpools is higher than the odds of me running out of whirlpools.
