The only problem I see with that idea Vlad is that then you will have factions with new pieces for a few monthes that others won't receive until latter. We'll see what the companies can do. Well, what I meant to say was that not releasing sets is a bad idea. I just don't like randomly releasing stuff whenever you want!

I myself am opposed to non-styrene cards unless a substitute can be found that is not paper based. I play the game with my sons, and things happen, I do not want cards that can be so easily ruined by a slight mishap.

i have a question, has anybody thought of where were going to be stickers, because i dont want them to be so cheap that they are exactly like the ones you can get in massive $1 roles, but not too expensive where nobody wants them, basically, where are we going to find quality stickers that aren't too much?

Me and my friends will often set up the game on a pool table (which is low enough for pets to jump on), and my cat loves attention. She once feel asleep right on my home island and the ships that were docked there. No point making a set that doesn't have a fair degree of durability.

For game play, I prefer alternative deck plates used with existing models. This gives you chance to re-use swaps, duplicates or otherwise unplayable ship models.
You could add a sticker pennant to the model with the alternative ship name on it and refer to the deckplate for all its details.
For model collecting and building I would prefer new prints on cut styrene. but then I like building and decorating the models ...
If you want to create your own models on card they could be downloaded (e.g. as a pdf) then print at home as many as you need. If they get damaged print a new one...

...if the deckplate idea was done, I'd like to see them not even be stickers, but just "sleave" like things that you can put the old deckplate inside of... Could always just make deckplate stickers and put them on card sleeves...

hmm...after reading the "Hidden Costs" and such, if we needed something timely ad affordable the sleeve/sticker idea is what I like...but I could go for styrene if done well and reasonably priced (no more than $90 a set like SS).
another good part about sleeve/stickers would be that we could remake some of the ships that we think should be 'upgraded.' Like take the BC HMS Antelope...right now it has no ability and seems useless...maybe in our set we take a number of the lesser played pieces and upgrade them so they are more playable...basically just new deckplates for old ships, it could even be done like the BC prizes...cardboard, but say at the bottom you must use said rear card and give the set icon and card # like the BC prizes...this could be a cheap way of getting something out soon, if need be...until we have something more substantial. just an idea...

Maybe take useless ships and turn them around? Or, just take the ships from the Spanish main, they all look historical, and use them. Just sticker deckplate and such.
Now that this seems more crucial then before, stickied.

problem is i really didn't collect very much until revolution (i have what i need, i collect to play, not to say i have them all) so i dont have much from SM, so since i have what i need, i havn't bothered getting many packets

I second Admiralb's suggestion. Although it will most likely end up as an Ocean's Edge, it may take significantly longer (in both ships, time, and expenses) to get a historical set up an about. It also gives a very, very small feel of enjoyment since old ships are improved, or worsened (like Deliverance and Neptune's Hoard. Bleh). This would also cut costs if we just use the same model but switch the deckplates so that they have different abilities, but I doubt this would get passed easily.

Errr...the Deliverance got better, hahaha.
Anyway, I voted option #2. I would like styrene, but we can't get too picky. You can buy a box of 18 packs of Spanish Main for 22 dollars, so ships aren't really that big of a deal.

When you are familiar with their 'history' you might reckon Wizkids over rated her! See here for more info: www.chebucto.ns.ca/~jacktar/barretts.html#I'd have the Antelope in my fleet, because I sing the song when I'm drunk enough! Nic still sober

Seems like we are split across the board here.

Errr...the Deliverance got better, hahaha. I consider it a tad bit worse, because the ability didn't really feel as helpful as say, the +1 World-Hater ability that would actually be effective, considering that the Cursed Cannons usually tend to be lower than others. Has anyone ever considered double-backing Card Stock (using double sheets)? It still won't be waterproof, but it should be about as hard as normal styrene in thickness.
