Nothing has been reached on the styrene front, we'll need to find a different company to contact, I'm afraid.
So, if styrene proves to be expensive, would you still be interested if it was a vinyl sticker thread? With stickers, its possible to put it online for people to put stickers on their own ships. Or, it could still be sold with the stickers.
Obviously, styrene is prefered.

I suppose I would if they look good, play good, and are cheap enough to fabricate. Also, if the styrene falls through there's always the possibility of making crew like the BC prize crew...on cardboard...not exactly sure what kind they used, but it could work.

Stickers are certainly far less appealing, but may be the only option. For crew they'd hardly be a big deal, but for ships it may just be better to make an alternate deckplate and let players use similar ships. Stickers may add to the illusion, but on a ship it's hard to be sure about how effective they'd be visually.

Cleverpun definitely has the right idea when it comes to ships. Now that'll definitely cut down some costs.
I don't want to put stickers on actual ships personally, but I wouldn't mind deckplates at all, especially if it does seem to be the only option.

I'm sure the ships from the Spanish main would capture the artwork enough.

true...my last personal set was almost all re-vamps of old ships...just change the deckplate. it could work, I'd be for a mini-set of new deckplates...

Are you talking about putting stickers on ships we already own, or carving up our own pieces out of plastic and applying stickers to them?

sounds more like just printing stickers and putting them on ships we don't need OR just making stickers and putting them only on the deckplate so as not to mess up the actual ships...
...if the deckplate idea was done, I'd like to see them not even be stickers, but just "sleave" like things that you can put the old deckplate inside of...

Rustyhook, you gave me a great idea. Instead of having the styrene company put the artwork on the cards, we could just ask them too die cut blank models and then put vinyl stickers on them. That should save on printing, and will be able to easily get people what they want (they could go online, look at the aviable stickers and then choose what they want, and order/print them on their own). We wouldn't need sets, we would just release stickers as we got them.

Okay, now I like that idea a lot.
I would prefer sets, however. Or if you want to do it like the oft-maligned companies like Games Workshop do it, you could have it like this:
January- Pirate faction pieces February-English faction pieces March-Spanish faction pieces April-French faction pieces May-American faction pieces
This is why I prefer that there be sets. Makes things better that way, if you ask me.

I vote black core styrene then. It would be available die cut (maybe mega size so its all on one card?) in lots of 10-20. People could then print just the ones they wanted. I like it LD

The only problem I see with that idea Vlad is that then you will have factions with new pieces for a few monthes that others won't receive until latter.
We'll see what the companies can do.

hmm...what if like vlad's ideam but release certain sizes...say in January you get 3-masters, then February you get 4-masters, March - 1-masters...or whatever order...that way each faction gets one or two a month and no one feels screwed...but yeah, let's wait until we know what CAN be done before getting that far ahead.

I used to do alot of artwork and merch for bands before I had children....... and I have some leads on some bada$$ vinyl sticker companies. I also did custom framing for years and know where theres a computer driven vinyl cutter gathering dust. If there was money involved I know my friend could/would fire it up. But I wouldn't bug him till we were sure that was a route we needed to go. I believe he might even be able to print on Vinyl, But his shop would have to still be up and running. It was iffy last I talked to him.
