even though I think a new nation for now is too much I believe the "Basque" should be put in the running. They are such an ancient mysterious seafaring country all kinds of material can be found about them if you look hard enough. I've even read theories that they are descendants of Atlantis. Their language has no know relative language on earth........ Although they seemed to sail the seas in secret a little there are stories of great Basque defenders and pirates besides just being great fisherman.

If we do another set, what would be cool to do would be to have the Basque be enslaved by the Cursed and used as fodder for their monsters.

I say add the Dutch. That would be a great one (me being a Dutchman would like to see). Fast ships, great crew, big cargo space. I would also like to see the real "Flying Dutchman" as in the Captain. Most believe it is referring to the ship, but it is actually the captain of the ship. I would also like to see Captain Ahab added to the Americans. www.occultopedia.com/f/flying_dutchman.htm

I know this might be a crazy idea. How about we just make 3 new nations. I don't know about the rest of you, But I have enough pirate, spanish, english, american, and french ships and crew. Maybe get some of the other one hit nations some more generic crew. Plus we don't need to make all the different ship types. i.e. scorpions, switchblades, bombardiers, and flotillas. Personly I think scorpions, switchblades, and bombardiers ruined the game.

seems a bit much, what we need to do is "fix" the current nations so that 1 isn't more powerful than any other, and factions that need certain crew get those crew

seems a bit much, what we need to do is "fix" the current nations so that 1 isn't more powerful than any other, and factions that need certain crew get those crew Now that's crazy talk! But seriously guys, I've said this a billion times before, let's fix the holes that need to be fixed, and make the game more balanced. We can't afford to get ahead of ourselves, especially when we don't even know if this set is going to be able to be made. When the first set gets made and is received with thunderous applause, that is when we should start thinking about new nations. We could even go the way bloodynips proposed. But we should focus on what's already on our plate!

No use eating the dessert before the main meal, you'll only regret it latter!
This being a historical set bloodynips, I don't see how we could fit the "steampunk" ships in of RotF, F&S and SS.
We should start basic, and then add "specialty" items on after the main design is over, not the other way around. Despite what ideas might be in the heads of fans, a "fan-made" set has more trouble with making new creations than the official ones have!

Having skimmed through the discussion so far, I voted no for a new nation. Woelf's points were convincing for me.
It does occur to me that Pirates don't actually have a nationality. They can come from anywhere, there is no Pirate homeland. You could create Pirate sub-factions with a national flavour, e.g. The Dutch Use the flavour text to group them with other 'Dutch' pirate ships/crew.

re Irish Pirates - Google Grace O'Malley.
The O'Malleys were a notorious pirate / trading clan operating from the west coast of Ireland during Queen Elizabeth's reign. i.e POSM. They had a large fleet as well as castles in Ireland. At various times they dealt with, robbed or fought the English, Spannish and French, (but mainly other Irish families.)

Interesting, whales would be funny. Sort of like the sharks? Hahaha Whales could be a 3 masted sea monster. Curently there's: shark:2 seaserpent: 4 giant squid: 5 Kraken: 8 I favor expanding the one-shot factions more than adding new ones. we'll need more Krakens too.
