Oh! Nice! I like that idea for a Mercenary Fort. Maybe have that be a seperate fort from "Nemo's Lagoon"? And a reword: Kinuji Yosai (Jade Rebellion) 4G 2L 3L 2L 3L 3L (built in chainshot specialist) Flavor text: The merchants who originally built his place had not intended for it to be used in war time. However, their workers came up with a way to tangle ship's rigging with the silk they produce.

Still not liking the flavor text. Makes no sense.

Yeah, it really doesn't.

maybe havie it be something like:
The merchants who fan this bastion of production had not originally intended to use her for war, but have found that the silk they produced worked magnificently in slowing down the ships they were now charged with fighting.
just an idea, kind of long though

How about removing the silk part?
"The merchants who use this bastion of production had not originally intended to use her for war, but have found that the silk they produced could be easily traded for chainshot, which they use to great effect against enemy trading ships"

Okay, whatever. Works good enough I guess.

Erm.... :headdesk: Okay, whatever. The problem is that you haven't explained a thing about HOW they'd use the silk to slow ships down. You mentioned something about it being historical, but if it was it had to be something that was extremely obscure and/or rarely done because there seems to be no actual information about it. All you have to do is give us some sort of reference, even a wikipedia link, and this entire issue with the flavor text will go away.

A wiki link is better than nothing; It shows something has had some form of impact in the world.

Erg... The idea is to use silk cord to tangle the rigging. But in hindsight it does seem kinda silly.

Wizkids had pretty far-out ideas too, like the steampunk ships, some flavor text and unique treasures, all which turn out to be pretty fun concepts if done right.

You could have it be, "Once per turn, one treasure placed on this island by mercenary vessels may instead be placed on your home island." Would make the mercenaries a bit better and prevents other factions from taking advantage. Mercenary's Hideaway - 4 gold 4S, 4S, 4S, 4S Once per turn, one treasure unloaded at this fort by Mercenary ships may be placed on your home island instead. This island has been used by mercenaries to stow away gold they plundered for their employers.(I'll work on the flavor text)

that's pretty good for that idea.

Mercenary's Hideaway - 3 gold 4S, 4S, 4S, 4S, 4S Once per turn, one treasure unloaded on this fort by Mercenary ships may be placed on your home island instead. This island has been used by mercenaries to stow away gold they plundered for their employers.(I'll work on the flavor text) Not bad, although I'd recommend removing one or two of those cannons or bumping the cost up to 4 gold. Throwing out some other ideas... Something that would really help out Mercenaries would be a way to build thier forts without first getting gold on your home island. Perhaps a keyword would be in order: Mercenary Base (keyword): If all ships in your fleet have the Mercenary keyword, while docked at an explored wild island a ship may use its action for the turn to build this fort without taking gold from your home island. When first built (only), reveal all treasure on the wild island; if the total value of non-unique gold present is less than the gold cost of this fort, eliminate a number of cannons equal to the difference. --- HavenMercenary - 6 Gold 5S (x8) Mercenary Base. Ships docked at this fort cannot shoot or be shot at, and do not block lines of fire. (Flavor text goes here - something about being a home base for mercenaries with protected docks.)---- Black RockMercenary - 6 Gold 4S (x5) Mercenary Base. Once per turn you may eliminate any number of masts from any one ship docked at this fort; if you do, repair a number of cannons on this fort equal to one less than the number of eliminated masts. Any ship that is sunk or scuttled within L of this fort becomes a wreck. To most sailors Black Rock is a graveyard for ships, so they steer clear to avoid meeting the same fate. Only a select few know that it is in fact a secret Mercenary base, built from the very wreckage that keeps it hidden in plain sight.

HavenMercenary - 6 Gold 5S (x8) Mercenary Base. Ships docked at this fort cannot shoot or be shot at, and do not block lines of fire. (Flavor text goes here - something about being a home base for mercenaries with protected docks.) With no other place to safely repair damages to their vessels, Haven's location is known only to the mercenaries.

Now we're talkin' - I ask about mercenary forts and ideas spring up. I'll take a shot at it (needs work, though):
Recruiter's Point Mercenary - 5 Gold 5S (x2) 6S (x2) Mercenary Base. Once per turn you may put one crew with point cost 4 or less from outside of the game on this fort. That crew becomes a member of the Mercenary nation. Remove a number of gold points equivalent to the crew's cost from the game.
Ragged, ill-defended, and isolated, this floating hunk of a town only attracts those with nowhere else to go. All mercenary captains know the location of the place, and head there first should they need new hires.
