just an idea that i had for a new ship type, but for the most part i think we should stick with the basic same ship types. this also show the program that i use, i can post a link if needed to the program. its a bit rough but the idea was to add a square rigged sail to the schooner to mimic the real ships

Nice! Does this work on Vista only or is this also for XP and 7? Is it possible to play around with it long enough to create brand-new ship types?
Post Script: The Schooner looks whacky, but I like it.

I like the idea ( It would need a special mast design to fit flat on a card. Maybe somehow connect the two pieces? ) Sort of like the USS Enterprise on the left: ( Sorry for the image being so large[Wow, an "admin" apoligized!])

the idea was that oyu put a slot in the sail and the mast so it would just slide onto the mast. also the program does work on vista (what i use now) i can try it on my windows 7 vm. i also have windows 7 pre-ordered. (i know i'm a computer geek)
This design i thought would replace the 2 masted schooner, and maybe exist as a 3 mast as pictured.

It could only submerge once per two turns, couldn't be canceled, couldn't carry gold, could carry only 1 crew, and once per turn it could unlatch a "bomb" that would eliminate at most 2 masts.

Yes I had plans for that but not necisarily in this series we should for the most part stick to the basics for awhile. the progam works on all sorts of operating systems (XP included) it is known as blender, you can go to www.blender.org to download it, its free and is a 3d modeling software. try some tutorials on how to use it to learn it better.

That is true; I do have a tendency to get ahead of myself. Btw thanks for the link; I will try playing with it a little bit.

@ The Scarlet Pimpernel:
What are the other programs that are needed for Blender (for Vista)? One of them is something called Python, the other is a Windows C++ visuals. Help?
EDIT: Ok, I got those working. I installed Python 2.6.
However, when I click on "Tutorials", it says I need a full Python instalation. Does this mean I need the latest version ( 3.1.) of Python?

If people are going to be assigned design duties, this'll likely be the biggest challenge for that team: creating new ship types that actually work successfully. While some of WizKids' ship designs had flaws (the smallest mast on 4-mast galleys comes to mind), they were overall very well put together.
All my experience is in legos and k'nex, hardly helps with something like this.
And if you think about it, even creating a 5-mast galley (or any similar "improvement" on an existing ship type) would a considerable bit of ingenuity.

he he i think i have abunch of ideas flowing through my head, mainly you keep the same hull on any ship and change the mast, whamo customization! i'll post some more ideas later on...

How about a derigible / zepplin / blimp model that works kind of like a dragon with the unrestricted movement but maybe slower. It could be a reverse-sub being out of reach with sea vessels when up high.
Maybe you can send you ship "high" where your cannons only hit on 6s and when the blimp is "low" your accuracy is better but you can also get hit.

well, when designing new ships, you could always use cardstock or something along those lines, its cheap, you can cut it, tweak it however you want, all while its assembled, i've tried this successfully before, so i know it works

The first ship drawn is called a "topsail schooner." They were made in two-masted and three-masted versions. This is one of many actual variations on the arrangements of square sails and fore-and-aft sails, most of which Pirates hasn't touched yet. These include:
* Bark -- three masts, with the fore and mainmasts square-rigged and the mizzenmast fore-and-aft
* Barkentine -- three masts, with the fore mast square-rigged and the mainmast and mizzenmast fore-and-aft
* Brigantine -- two masts, with the fore mast square-rigged and the mainmast fore-and-aft
Any of these would be easy to do, since the masts already exist in plastic. It would just be a question of altering the slots in the deck to receive the correct mast.
