for the name of the set i've come up with a few
Pirates: A New Age
Pirates: the Age of Sail
Pirates: Dawn of War (if we go for the whole ship of the line thing)

First, we'll see if this can be printed, and in what way. Some eras would only with styrene, while others could be done with stickers.
The community seems to be pretty split in what they want. Once we figure the above out, we'll conduct a series of polls.

I thought that the general consensus was that we preferred styrene but when push comes to shove we'll take stickers.

Pirates: Reloaded Pirates of the Spanish Main (with subtitle "up yours WK") However, I like these 3, big surprise as I made them: Pirates: The Golden Age (for a bit of irony) Pirates: Treachery on the High Seas Pirates: Conquest and Pillage

and just to be funny have a Spanish ship called "Siglo de Oro" the Golden Age...haha...I had a ship with that name in one of my sets...
which were called...
Life and Death on the High Seas Sailors of Fortune Ocean of Legends Haunted Depths Calls from the Deep Davy Jones' Wrath (won't happen since we're not planning any Cursed)
...and more specific ones Hired Guns Siege of Malta Civil War in America The Great Sea Fleets of the Fiends (I & II)
...and the newest Age of Exploration...which is not complete yet...but getting closer...I think I'm at 50 cards...UTs/Eqpt need to added along with generics and possible SR/LE/SE's.
or we could just go the easy route and say "Return to the Spanish Main" depending on our theme.

Remember that a name is a marketing tool, and that's one thing we assuredly won't be dealing with.
Make sure the name says something about it's fan origins and unofficial status. "Pirates CSG Fan Set" may be a little dry, but if you want some lame puns, how about "Rise of the Fans" or "Fire and Styrene"
yes I realize those are awful, awful puns.

those are pretty funny names there cleverpun...and ironically they are "clever puns"
how about "Savage Stores" or "Crimson Cost"
ok, not nearly as creative, but still weird...we'll have to come back to this once we know if its styrene and when we have a theme...
...but I like where its going.

I'll reinstate my old post under Ahoy! again:
How about Pirates!: Back to War? Yes, I know we are supposedly not at war and gold has the same emphasis as fighting, but there have been so many wars in the series against nations that it would seem ideal if we are doing a military set, but under a mostly gold and exploration set, I think AdmiralB's set in the works title would be well suited to this case scenario.

true (of course I like my own set's name, duh), but again it all depends on what time period we ultimately decide to go with, what theme, what nations we have to an extant.
Back to War would be more suited to a Napoleonic Era set...although you could even go with something like "Men-of-War" as a kind of joking reference to the man-of-ships that most nations used at the time. of course this would be a more battle oriented set and probably, as was said be set around 1800 or so and have Battle of Trafalgar and such.
...this all comes down again to what time period and theme we decide on which can't be done until we know we can actually make cards in some fashion...but speculation is fun.

Believe it or not I was basing this off of not the Napoleonic Era but the 17th-18th Century. I got thinking about this after revisting an old game I used to play from Ukraine, called Cossacks Back To War, which had a very good decency but then again this set title may infringe upon something.

I rather like the sound of "Return to the Spanish Main" myself.
